Details of In Sirimon – Out Naromoru – Climbing Mount Kenya – 5 days trek
Mount Kenya is the second highest mountain in Africa and great alternative for Kilimanjaro. You will trek 6 days through breathtaking landscape and on the day 4 you will reach the peak. The Sirimon route is one of the finest approaches to the peak and offering some of the best view to the main peaks. The climb is gradual and can be done leisurely.
Day 1: Nairobi – Slopes of Mt. Kenya
Transfer to Mount Kenya, later start of the trek from Sirimon Park Gate.
You will be picked from your Nairobi Hotel and transferred to Nanyuki town, which is as the base of Mt Kenya. You will have early lunch at the town Hotel and proceed to the Sirimon Park gate. After a few formalities at the gate we shall start the mountain trek. The easy afternoon trek will help acclimatize. The evening will be at the Old Mosses (3300m) at the high altitude mountain cabins. We shall have done 5 hours of trekking by end if this day.
Day 2: Trekking Mount Kenya
In the morning after breakfast continue with Mount Kenya trek. You shall start the day at 0700hrs and by end of his day we shall have done 8 hours of leisure walking.
This is a true test of patience, endurance and determination. Ascend the Sirimon Track to Likii North Valley, in this beautiful little valley below the subsidiary peaks of Teleki and Sendeyo, two ancient parasitic vents of the main peaks (3990m).Climb out of the North Valley and into the Mackinders Valley, one of the broadest valleys on the mountain, with many giant groundsels. You will camp at Shimptons Cabins of the Mackinder’s Valley, just below the main peaks of Batian and Nelion (4,300m).
Day 3: Mt. Kenya Peak
Trek starts in the middle of the night. It is the day when you reach the mt. Kenya Peak in sunrise hours.
You shall start this day at 0200hrs. The day starts at 0200hrs. We have to start very early on this day so that we reach the peak at sunrise. It is an Alpine ascent to the highest peak, Point Lenana (4985m) eenroute up the North face little used by tourists. It is 4 hours of stiff walking to the summit. This will be the most challenging bit of the Mountain Trek and will require a strong mind to reach the summit. At about 0730hrs, we shall start the descent back to the Austrian Hut and later descend to the Mackinders Camp for the overnight stay.
Day 4: Descend day
Approximately 8 hours of trekking until we reach Met Station bandas. After breakfast you shall trek to the Met Station Bandas through the Teleki Valley. Lunch is served on the way and lunch will be served on the way. Trekking time on this day is 8 hours.
Day 5: Final descend to the park gate and transfer to Nairobi
Trek is almost finished, last kilometres of Mount Kenya trekking route and you are ready to go back to Nairobi. After breakfast you shall depart the Met station Bandas and trek out of the Park where you shall be met by our van and be transferred to Nairobi.
