Guided by a local farmer you will experience the whole process of coffee production from bean to cup. You will visit small coffee farms, do some coffee berry picking and see how the berries are processed. The farmer will explain to you about organic coffee farming and fair-trade standards.
You will be picked up at your hotel at 0900hrs and transferred Kahawa Shamba on the slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro. It is roughly a 45 minute drive. Upon arrival at Kahawa Shamba you will be met by a local farmer who will be your guide for the day. After a short briefing about your activities for the day, you will go on a 30 minute walk to one of the small family-owned local coffee farms.
Your tour starts with berry picking in the farm where you will be taught how the locals pick the coffee berries. You will then be shown where the locals peel and dry the coffee seeds. Afterwards you will roast the dried coffee beans then grind them to into fine powder. You will then boil the coffee and have a taste of your own brewed coffee. After the tour you will head back to Kahawa Shamba for lunch where you will be having local Chagga cuisine. After lunch you will be transferred back to your hotel in Moshi.
