Mount Kilimanjaro compared to Mt. Kenya, Africa’s highest Mount Kilimanjaro is a relatively easy climb and the main summit of Uhuru peak (5,895m) can be reached by most climbers. Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest free standing mountain at 5,895 meters or 19,340 feet. Mount Kilimanjaro looms some 16,000 feet (4,900 meters) above the plains that spread out from its base, Mt. Kilimanjaro dominates its surroundings. Kilimanjaro is an extinct volcano, with 3 peaks: Kibo peak, Shira peak & Mawenzi peak. Kibo is the highest one (5,895m) in the center, Mawenzi is lower (5,149m) and East of Kibo, but more technical. Mount Kilimanjaro’s (Kili – easily known) third peak is Shira which is less obvious, but it’s also an extinct volcano (3,962m, west of Kibo). Mt.
